In consideration of ‘the whole girl’ we take a holistic approach in addressing her inter-related needs
Interviewing women from Kitenga and asking them “Why do you want a school for girls?”
Girls Education Collaborative (GEC) is a US-based 501(c) 3 non-profit that supports and promotes the efforts of local change-makers working to create gender equity in their communities through the power of quality, holistic educational opportunities for girls.
We partner deeply with locally-driven initiatives where girls education is at the core. GEC believes that education is at the center, but not alone, in creating more positive futures for the world’s girls living in poverty. Therefore, in addition to quality education, we advocate for integrated and holistic ‘wrap-around’ efforts so that a girl can more fully prepare to meet both her present and future needs.
“ Congrats on the great work. I’m a huge believer that educating girls is, if not a silver bullet, as least a bronze bullet – the best leverage we have for fighting poverty.”
Pulitzer Prize winner, New York Times columnist and best-selling author
GEC was founded in 2012 and our work is directed towards the communities that need it most: rural, impoverished and under-served areas in the global south.
GEC works to leverage the resources and expertise of our collaborative partners and donors, and in turn, bring previously untapped assets to community initiatives.
